In 2006, Philippe Kessler, after gaining experience at Château Calissanne, bought the estate that would become the Domaine Clef de St Thomas, and manages it today with his wife, Sophie Kessler-Matière.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils consist of large rolled pebbles that are heated by the sun, which lends the land a gentle, regular heat throughout the day. The result is an improved maturity and concentration in the grapes.
The estate has a mosaic of traditional grape varieties, giving the wines aromatic complexity, balance and strength.

For the red wines: mainly Grenache, together with Syrah and Mourvèdre.
For white wines: Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc.

The grapes are harvested in mid-September in crates and made into wine in the estate’s wine-storage cellars in the village. The red Clef de St Thomas wine should be laid down, while the white should be enjoyed within 3 years.
Pierre Troupel, for both red and white, should be served when it is young.
