A palette of collections that contemporary art lovers will enjoy that are known about or to be discovered are found in Vaucluse, but also artists and galleries tucked away in inspiring towns and villages. There’s plenty for setting out to meet women and men who create, paint, sculpt, design and for the eyes to enjoy.

The collection Lambert: a must-see

The Yvon Lambert collection is exhibited in the Caumont and Montfaucon private townhouses in the Avignon city centre, brings together artists of international renown: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Sol LeWitt, Anselm Kiefer…

The museum was created on the initiative of art dealer and collector Yvon Lambert and opened in 2000 exhibiting permanent works, some of which were created for the setting. As such from the courtyard – with the installation by Miroslaw Balka –, to the attic – which houses an installation by Claude Lévêque –, each room is the opportunity to set out on a new journey. The space was extended in 2015 to accommodate temporary exhibitions.

Contemporary art is sometimes exhibited (and even more and more) on town and village walls.

Painted windows of the city festival and unique creations on the railway structures in Avignon, via pop-up installations that can be admired in Carpentras for example as part of the artistic and educational projects of budding artists, such as les Papillons (exhibition-competition held each year with an exhibition of the works outdoors all over the city) and the Graphimix project (which takes place each year with the DRAC), or the cheminement des sculptures (sculpture path) in Gigondas, the art labyrinth – Le monde de Marion et d’Ulysse in Joucas and Le Diamantaire (who applies his works pretty much all everywhere), there are many facets of contemporary art in Vaucluse-Provence.
