Vaison-la-Romaine
Opening of the exhibition Thierry Luang Rath - Station Galerie
Saturday 30 November 2024 at 6 pm.
Event in Vaison-la-Romaine :
Opening of Thierry Luang Rath's exhibition at Station Galerie from 30/11 to 4/01. He meticulously crafts each motif, creating a setting of dizzying geometry. Opening on 30/11 at 6pm.
The artist:
Thierry Luang Rath discovered clay in 1979 and set up as a potter in 1987. Trained at the CNIFOP, he obtained a CAP in throwing in 1993.
It's in the intimacy of his various workshops (Nord, Maine et Loire, Drôme and Morbihan) that he reveals his full potential and his taste for stoneware. Today, Thierry prefers to create one-off pieces, from miniatures to large-scale series.
From 2005, he devoted himself exclusively to the creation of teapots and bowls, then in 2012 he specialized in repoussé decoration on bowls. Using bamboo tools, sometimes carved on the spot, he works directly on fresh clay, without prior tracings. The premise: neither adding nor removing material, simply pushing back the still-moist clay. Each tool impression on the outer surface is matched by a mirror-like decoration on the inside of the bowl, which is then covered with a blue glaze. The result is a complex geometric pattern on several levels. Thierry prefers Treigny stoneware with its warm shades, which is well-suited to his creative process. The most demanding bowls require several days' work and a precise gesture that he repeats ad infinitum.
