Nancy Huston, born in Calgary, Canada, is a Franco-Canadian writer of English and French. After spending a year in Paris in 1973, Nancy Huston stayed on and became a pupil of Roland Barthes. She began her career as an essayist for the MLF, and for women's journals such as Sorcières, which she co-founded, and published her first novel in 1981, 'Les Variations Goldberg'.
