Trained at the Vienna Staatsoper's opera studio, Ramón Vargas made his public debut in 1992 when New York's Metropolitan Opera asked him to replace Luciano Pavarotti as Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. Ramón Vargas' career soon took off internationally, with appearances at the Vienna Staatsoper (The Magic Flute, Maria Stuarda, Falstaff), Rome Opera (The Barber of Seville), Zurich Opera (Fra Diavolo), Teatro Comunale Bologna (Mosé in Egitto). He sang Rodolfo in La Bohème at New York's Metropolitan Opera, in Rome and at Barcelona's Liceu, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at the Metropolitan Opera, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Nemorino in L'Élixir d'amour in Vienna, the title role in Werther in San Francisco, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Nemorino and Faust at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Jacopo Foscari in I Due Foscari at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées... He has also recorded numerous CDs and DVDs.
