Kids and grown-ups alike can admire the marshland birds thanks to three lookouts. In the springtime, frogs and toads bring added interest to the site.
The rivers of the south-west basin of the Mont Ventoux bear witness to the medieval period, with their distinctive feature of being dammed and perched, so that the Les Confines site is actually located below the level of the bed of the river which runs alongside it.
A large, marshy papal hunting ground until the 19th century, these wetlands passed into the ownership of pyrotechnics firm Ruggieri in 1984.
Under pressure due to frequent flooding, the site was sold to the Monteux municipality in 1992.
Today, this site is registered as a Nature 2000 zone. Its main purpose is to preserve biodiversity and it is fully equipped to allow optimal ornithological exploration.
