Villars
La Bruyère hill discovery trail
Tourist service in Villars :
At first glance, la Bruyère hill doesn't seem so different from the region's other ochre mountains, but think again! Located in the Luberon Reginal Nature Park between the Pays d'Apt and the Monts de Vaucluse, it holds a few surprises in store.
A nice walk leads to a former ochre quarry in Villars, where miners once extracted natural pigment from the land.
In this magnificent colour palette where yellow, orange and red take centre stage, protected species such as bats have made their home, as well as rare plant species such as Loeflingia hispanica and Early Star-of-Bethlehem.
Yellow signposted trail.
Carpark to the left of La Collines des Ocres holiday resort.
Not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
"When visiting a Protected Natural Site, take suitable measures and behave appropriately: don't remove species, don't pick flowers, collect your litter, stay quiet so as not to disturb the animals, and keep to the paths."
