Entrechaux
Village d'Entrechaux
Tourist service in Entrechaux :
Entrechaux is dominated by its medieval castle. The village is at the intersection of the Route des Princes d’Orange, the Toulourenc and Ouvèze rivers.
The village, formerly Celtic, then Roman, before being placed under papal authority, has prehistoric origins. It lies at the foot of the medieval castle.
Cross the avenue lined with plane trees, to the heart of the village, where you can park and walk around the streets. The church was built in the late 19th century, with the stones from the castle.
Take the road up to the castle, perched upon its rocky peak. A victim of the religious wars and widespread looting, the castle, now in ruins, has been purchased privately and is being restored.
Against the city wall, you will discover the ancient parish church of St Lawrence, dating from the 15th century, which has been transformed repeatedly.
Don’t miss the three restored roman chapels spread around the village. This is a good introduction to the religious heritage of Entrechaux.
During your visit, you can enjoy the many outdoor activities : hiking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, tennis, swimming, or fishing.
NOT TO BE MISSED
The medieval bridge or Pont Roman spanning the Ouvèze is so narrow that a car can just barely fit on it. Its low-slung, 24-meter arch has enabled it to withstand floods.
