Saint-Roman-de-Malegarde on the Drôme border is, a few kilometres from Vaison-la-Romaine. The upper part of the village has steep and narrow streets.
This ancient village which is located on the left bank of the Aygues acts as guardian of the Knights Templar, then later the Hospitallers.
Park on the Place de Verdun. Enjoy the shade of the four magnificent plane trees and the freshness of the fountain. In the square is an oak tree that is centuries old.
The tiny streets of the village, increasingly narrow as you ascend, bringing you to the fountain called « the Four Masks ». In succession you will find the 18th century wash-house, the 17th century parish church. The church is decorated with a one-handed clock and Maltese cross adorning its facade. Finally, at the highest point of the village, is the 12th century castle, of which three towers remain. They are of beautiful, hewn Achères stone, set into later buildings.
Taking the « Serre de la Garde » botanical path to the belvedere, you will look out onto Aygues Valley, the Alps, the mountains of the Ardeche, the Cevennes...

There is, like everywhere else in Provence, a legend of a golden goat, that will remain forever buried in the underground passage connecting the castle to the highest point of the town.
