Tourist service in Sault :
Nature is the backdrop to this village which was established on a rocky promontory in the 11th century to protect itself. It dominates a plain cultivated with lavender, lavandin and small spelt, offering visitors a unique patchwork of colours in summer.
If you want to get an insight into the rich history of the village, the signposted walk "One hour in the footsteps of the wolf" is a good introduction. The visitor will discover three of the towers of the old medieval castle, alleys with eloquent names (Esquiches mouches, Rompe-Cul) and the church Notre Dame de la Tour, built at the beginning of the 12th century, and classified as a historical monument.
The municipal museum, one of the oldest in the province, opens its doors in summer. In the manner of a cabinet of curiosities, it exhibits treasures that are as varied as they are interesting: an original copy of Diderot and d'Alembert's encyclopaedia, numismatic and Egyptian collections - including a mummy -, lapidary inscriptions, a herbarium, minerals and fossils.
The village hosts a wide variety of stores and services : crafts, souvenirs, local farm products, essentials, cafes, restaurants, tea houses, food, etc. Many of them offer a unique musical discovery of their activity in collaboration with “Le Milieu” .
Lavender is omnipresent in Sault and flowers from the beginning of July.
Distilleries, gardens, soap and cosmetics factory welcome you to discover the world of plants and scents. Various visits and workshops are offered to discover the world of this emblematic plant of Provence, from the field to the end products, without forgetting its uses and its history.
In addition to the Provencal market every Wednesday morning since 1515, the summer period in Sault is punctuated by numerous events, garage sales and festivals, the highlight of which is the unmissable lavender festival on 15 August.
