The chapel Notre Dame des Neiges
Tourist service in Blauvac :
On the slopes of the hill, the rural chapel Notre Dame des Neiges was built on an old Celto-Ligurian oppidum, a year when it snowed in August. A famous pilgrimage celebrates the event each year.
Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, which was once called Notre-Dame-de-Blaise, is located on the site of an ancient Celto-Ligurian oppidum, which was occupied late in life, as the remains of a Paleo-Christian church, which included a sanctuarium, testify.
This burial site has been identified thanks to numerous bones.
Excavations for the purpose of furnishing antiques rooms were carried out on this site during the 18th century.
They revealed pottery debris, lamps, and cremation graves.
The chapel is isolated, along a path, below Blauvac (D150), towards Villes-Sur-Auzon and Méthamis.
The chapel has an elongated plan with a flat chevet.
Its façade has a gable wall truncated by a small bell tower. The entrance portal is arched and there are two rectangular bays on the upper level.
