Temple de La Motte d'Aigues
Tourist service in La Motte-d'Aigues :
This single-vessel building bears witness to a strong Protestant presence in the village, following the arrival of the Vaudois in the early 16th century.
The current building, erected in 1905 is actually the third frame building at this location. The previous two, one destroyed by order of Louis XIV in 1663 and the other fell into disrepair after a short life in the nineteenth century gave way to the temple today. Inside, a beautiful walnut pulpit, made in 1819 by a carpenter Saignon and restored in 1905, adorns the north wall. Harmonium dating from the 20th century type "Anglo-Saxon" in perfect working condition is always played at church services. In 1998 a partial restoration of the building had been hired by the town, but since the building had deteriorated significantly. Under the leadership of the Association mottassine "Friendliness and Culture", the municipality has undertaken early in 2015 a new renovation that will provide a building complies with current safety and comfort standards. Alongside the Association is committed to helping the Protestant community to purchase new seats as current benches are very degraded. Concerts were organized, brochures depicting the history of the temple and the Protestant community in English and French are being drafted and will soon be offered for sale. Donations are also welcome. For more information, please visit the following website against.
