Bell tower at the Convent of the Augustinians
Tourist service in Avignon :
The bell tower at the former convent of the Augustinians, on Rue Carreterie is one of the sole remaining vestiges of the former convent which was built under Pope John XXII.
The bell tower was built between 1372 and 1377, outside of the earliest medieval rampart.
The clock has been there since 1497.
You may notice the bell tower is slightly leaning. This goes back to the 1909 earthquake, when the tower's wooden foundations were shaken. The foundations have since been consolidated with concrete.
