Tourist service in Loriol-du-Comtat :
Loriol-du-Comtat is a lowland village with a few pretty houses clustered around its parish church. It's just a hop, skip and a jump from Carpentras. In the Middle Ages, the commune was drained thanks to the work of monks who built dykes and canals.
Located in the very heart of Provence, in the Comtadine plains, the town of Loriol-du-Comtat covers 1129 hectares and is just 5 minutes from Carpentras and 15 minutes from Avignon. The town grew up on former marsh land which was dried by the monks who settled there, having come from the abbey in Mazan l' Abbaye (Ardèche ).As you stroll in the area, you can still see mulberry trees, sign of the former activity of silkworm raising. Today, economic activity is primarily based on farming (greenhouse-grown early vegetables and open-field crops), nurseries and viticulture.
