Edy Boucher - L'Arbre en Scène, woodcarver

During the creative process, I let myself be guided by the movement I perceive in the piece I'm working on. I prune, lighten and refine to bring out the essential.
Sometimes the vision of the desired result is obvious, it imposes itself. At other times, the shape is hidden, and I have to go looking for it, gouging, polishing, adding material, so that it reveals itself.
Initially, I have no preconceived ideas. I slowly uncover the piece, stripping it of the mud that may envelop it, then of its bark, and even of the sapwood that covers the hardest wood. Delicately, the idea emerges and takes shape.
I'm delighted to discover the soft, smooth texture, the light or deep brown tones. I feel the material pulsating and alive, transforming and transcending it...
